Trac Ticket Guideline

please use our forum or mailinglist first if you can't get a specific task done within Moneydance or if there are questions reagarding your problem
(sometimes the documentation of MD simply does not explain how something works or where to find)
HELP

Starting

use search before opening a new ticket
* _{minimum two searches with different keywords}
* _{check at minimum three of the presented results}
take a look into Trac Timeline
enhance existing tickets where it fits
only attach data that can be viewed inside browser (GIF, PNG, JPG, HTML, ...) or that are interoperable (e.g. PDF, SVG)

Creating a ticket

title and comment

* make title short and descriptive, try using keywords

_{this is how your ticket will be presented in Timeline and Trac List (Summary)}
_{for extension not listed in component menu, name is needed in ticket title and description}

* write down problem/enhancement in comment field

_{keep it simple and short but descriptive}
_{write down steps in logical order needed to recreate/understand}

* state OS, JVM, MD build, other important settings, ...

_{MD build and Java informations can be found using menu help - About - also useful for setting component}
_{for extensions please state version found using menu Extensions - Information - please only tickets regarding extensions maintained by Moneydance or (Sean) Reilly}
_{more detailed OS or/and JVM version information can be gained with uname -a, ver -r, java -version, ... or by using a system information tool}

* try to link to similar trac tickets using #TicketNumber
*add screenshots/screencast if possible

_{don't forget to anonymize}

one bug/enhancement/task per ticket
extensions no longer working with new MD builds should be reported as MD bug with version set

changes to actual funcionallity, major changes in UI, rework of documantation

data loss, data corruption, MD unable to start, crash

problems to start MD, major functions unusable/not/no longer working, problems with data entry/processing (causing wrong data), unpredictable effects; enhancements needed for a specific and important task (i.e. tax reports, OFX for Swiss banks)

functions not working as expected, most enhancements and tasks, major inconsistencies

minor

glitches, faults, inconveniences, nice-to-have functions, functions making life easier

trivial

things that have no effect on MD's functionallity, polishing

set component

* not all extensions have own entry, for those not listed please use best matching one and explicitely state extension name in title and description

set version/milestone if appropriate,

try to set the corresponding milestone

* new bugs with current builds needs version set
* long standing bugs or feature request may not
* asking for better helpfiles (task) does not necessarily need a version
* tickets regarding extensions most times should not have version/milestone set
