Memorizing existing transaction should ignore "Transaction Cleared" flag

Reported by: JLB Assigned to: sreilly
Priority: minor Milestone: Moneydance 2008
Component: interface Version: 2008.beta
Keywords: memorize recurring Cc:

Description

One way to create a recurring transaction is to RightMouseButton? on an existing transaction and selecting "Memorize" from the popup context menu. This works but it also copies across the "Transaction Cleared" flag. This becomes a problem when you attempt to edit the Memorized transaction. See a full description of the issue and how to recreate it here:

Recurring tran - again: me? bug?
May 11th, 2008, 10:46pm Quote
The recurring transaction was created using the Memorize process as described in my earlier message.

Objective: edit a Memorized/Reminder transaction to change the amount.

Display Root account
Click on Reminders

In the Calendar pop up
Double-Click on the transaction "payee" name (on the right side)

In the Edit Transaction Reminder
Change the amount in the column "Payment rate"
Click on OK

This generates the "Question" pop-up:

Warning: this transaction has already been marked as 'Cleared'. Changing the amount could result in an incorrect 'Cleared Balance'. This may affect you 'Beginning Statement Balance' the next time you attempt to reconcile this account. Would you like to record this change?"

I clicked on "No".

Question: how do I change the amount of a Recurring transaction without impacting previous Cleared Balance?

Notes: there is a green check mark in the "C" (Cleared, I guess) column. Since this is a memorized transaction, I'm not sure if this should be set or not.

OS: XP SP2; MoneyDance 2008 (606).

I see what you mean. It is safe for you to click yes to that dialog box. The question is occurring because the actual memorized transaction is already marked as cleared - I suspect when you clicked the "Memorize" function the transaction you memorized was already cleared, so it saved the recurring transaction that way (probably something that should be changed in Moneydance).

To fix the problem so it doesn't bug you every time you want to change the amount before recording the transaction, change the actual reminder item (Root account | Reminders | Edit Reminder | select "Uncleared" on the status | Click OK - this will prompt you one more time that you're changing a cleared transaction, but again it's fine to do and then you won't be bothered with it again.

  • priority changed from major to minor.
  • type changed from defect to task.

before saving/momerizing a transacion as reminder you can edit the transaction information...
maybee there should be an information or warning about cleared status flag in memorized transactions
