No "file has changed" indicator, metal L&F with Mac OS

Description

Mac OS 10.4.11 MD build 603

Just updated the jar file from build 583 to build 603. When doing anything that modifies the file, build 583 adds an asterisk to the end of the path shown in the MD window titlebar. Build 603 does not.

Note, the window close radio button does change to indicate the file has changed (standard Mac behavior), but the asterisk at the end of the file path should still be there because it is easier to see and keeps MD consistent across platforms (I also tested this on Win XP Home and the old behavior still works on that OS).

Note, if the MD look and feel preference is set to "Metal" there is now no indication at all that the file has changed (on Mac OS only). No asterisk and no change in the window close radio button.

I see that the asterisk behavior was removed intentionally in build 601. Am I the only one who thinks MD should be consistent across platforms? After all, I bought it precisely because it works everywhere. So I want it to look and act the same everywhere, whether I'm using my XP box or my iMac. Please reconsider this behavior - or add some kind of toggle where I can turn it back on.

  • status changed from new to closed.
  • resolution set to wontfix.

The requested behavior is specifically antithetical to "the Mac way."

The Mac way is to change the close window jewel from an x to a circle. That is what we've done.
