randomly dropped transactions on import

Reported by: wnovinger Assigned to: sreilly
Priority: showstopper Milestone: Moneydance 2007
Component: onlinebanking Version: 2007.stable
Keywords: drop transaction Cc:

Description

I recently purchased MoneyDance 207r5 (587) to use on my MacBook? running OS x 10.5.2. I am downloading transactions from my bank in .qfx format (I am waiting to use tru on-line banking until my wife is happy with MoneyDance). Unfortunately, MoneyDance is randomly dropping transactions...they simply do not appear in the transaction list for the account.

I have attached the most recent .qif file, as well as a rendering of the file in Numbers (Excel equivalent on the Mac). Numbers is able to successfully parse the XML in the .qif file, but MoneyDance dropped transaction 36 (Discover card payment) with no error message or other indication that there was a problem.

This is not the first time this has happened. When initially loading the transactions from the account (some 150+), several were dropped. In this case, I thought it might have been cockpit error on my part. This time, however, I know that it wasn't. I have done a stare-and-compare of all of the transactions in the attached file, and cannot find anything anomalous about the dropped transaction.

If this can't be resolved, I will have no recourse other than to request a refund and spent the $65 to go back to Quicken. Please advise ASAP if you require any further information to troubleshoot this problem.

Thanks! Walt Novinger

Apparently I am unable to upload an RTF file of the Numbers parsing of the file. I guess you'll just have to trust me that it works. :) I'd be happy to email it if you provide an address.

The Discover transaction you describe shows up when I import the given QFX file. I'm sure Moneydance parses all of the transactions from the file, but the problem may have been that the OFX/QFX transaction ID from the bank was already used for some other transaction that you had already imported. If that was the case then MD2007 and the first release of MD2008 would have considered that transaction 'already imported' and not shown it in the list of transactions to be accepted. The current preview release of Moneydance 2008 is a bit more careful about the transactions it considers 'already imported' (it compares more than just the bank's transaction ID) and therefore probably solves this problem. Can you download a copy from http://moneydance.com/preview/ and reopen this ticket if it doesn't solve the problem?
