  • priority changed from minor to major.
  • component changed from general to onlinebanking.

this sounds like an external error! Did you configure online settings correctly?
please add more information, see TracTicket_Basics

I am also getting this error. It last worked on Mar 18. I called SECU and was told that Quicken and Money updated server information this week. There may have been other changes as the web site had a message that online banking would not be available after midnight on the 18. The error is happening with 2007 (587) and 2008 (603) I last connected using 2008 (602).

this is indeed an external error/problem - please try to get those changed settings and set up onlinebanking manual...
would be nice if you could post that new setup here, would be easier for Sean to modify MD's list of settings for onlinebanking

new settings = parameters your financial institution now uses for online banking / direct banking / ofx
those things that even Money and Quicken need - if possible you can try to get the changed connection details from the setup/ini files of those apps

  • summary changed from my transactions quit downloading due to HTTP ERROR:500 to NCSECU OFX, HTTP ERROR:500 after bank update.

please try asking your financial institution about connection settings again

To inline some data from my duplicate ticket #1588:

MSMoney claims that the new URL is https://onlineaccess.ncsecu.org/secuofx/secu.ofx, which is different than what Moneydance has, but this generates a 500 error in Moneydance, too.

I got info about the URL update here, which claims that the new URL is https://onlineaccess.ncsecu.org/secuofx/secu.ofx (and the Org and FID remain the same at "SECU" and 1001).

There's a thread on the forum about this that contains some (not very helpful) information from the bank.

A diff with an old version of the file (from here) shows only:

40c40
< <ProviderURL>https://onlineaccess.ncsecu.org/scripts/SECUOFXWedge.dll</ProviderURL>

< <Charge>0</Charge>

> <Charge>0.0000</Charge>

I have asked the bank for confirmation of this information and am waiting for a response.

I have found the problem.

When I try to set up a manual connection in Moneydance, it decides that it knows better than I do and asks moneydance.com what it thinks the org "SECU" and fid "1001" should be by requesting (among other things) http://moneydance.com/synch/moneydance/fi2004dir/SECU-1001.dct, which has the old OFX URL. It then apparently overrides the URL I entered with the one it got from moneydance.com, which breaks the setup.

I can't give it bogus org and fid information, because that will break the actual OFX connection. But I can cause moneydance.com to resolve to an incorrect address by editing my hosts file, and when it doesn't get the information it wants, it ever so graciously tries to access the URL I provided. And it works.

So now this is a bug in Moneydance where manual connections aren't manual at all. I don't understand why it should override what I enter.

I'm going to post to the forum to give people the workaround and some more detailed instructions on how to do it.

  • priority changed from minor to critical.
  • type changed from task to defect.
  • summary changed from NCSECU OFX, HTTP ERROR:500 after bank update to NCSECU OFX, HTTP ERROR:500 after bank update; manual setup overridden.

03/27/08 09:13:20 changed by sreilly

  • status changed from new to closed.
  • resolution set to fixed.

Sorry about that. This should now be fixed.

03/27/08 09:40:28 changed by wfaulk

  • status changed from closed to reopened.
  • resolution deleted.

I see that that the contents of SECU-1001.dct have been updated, but has Moneydance been fixed so that manual connections aren't overridden? While this probably solves my immediate problem, the next time someone's bank changes its OFX URL, this problem will occur again unless the manual connection problem is resolved. Maybe it should be a new ticket?
