Incredibly long screen refresh times and temporarily freezes computer

Reported by: pursley001 Assigned to: sreilly (accepted)
Priority: showstopper Milestone: Moneydance 2008
Component: general Version: 2007.stable
Keywords: Cc:

Description

This has been getting progressively worse with each new revision and now it is reached an unacceptable level with the new 2007 release. When any account is open and you switch back to Moneydance from another application, it takes up to a couple of minutes to refresh the screen. During this time, it ties up my computer's resources so completely that it is impossible to do anything else, even move my mouse, during this time. During the refresh, it also prevents any other applications from running. Just for the record, here is my computer stats:

Processor: 1.44Ghz Intel Celeron

Memory: 256Mb RAM

Hard Disk: 40Gb (27+ Gb free)

I see the same problem. Didn't realize it was preocessing....thought it was a sys lockup! 2.8ghz P4 - 1Gig ram - 80 gig h/d

At first, I thought it was locking up as well. I decided to just let it go and see what happened one time and, after over 3 minutes, computer control was restored...until I did something else and had to wait again.

  • status changed from new to assigned.

What version of java are you using? You can find out by selecting the "About Moneydance" menu (under Moneydance menu on mac, or Help menu on win/linux) and scrolling to the bottom.

When other have had this problem (myself included) it usually turned out to be some bad RAM/memory that for some reason was only revealed when running java applications such as moneydance.

Here is the information you requested:

Java Version: 1.5.0_11 Advanced Memory tests passed

I use Java a lot on my machine and this is absolutely the *ONLY* program on my computer that is having any problems. I am suspecting that it is related to some problem related to my hardware configuration - like my processor (stated earlier). I do not have this problem on my other computer which is much older.

I suppose I should also add that I have done a series of advanced diagnostics on my computer (Hard Drive, CDROM, Memory, Processor, etc.) and my computer passed all of them with flying colors with not even a hint of a problem.

Sean, I suppose I should let you know that you can close this one. For some unknown reason (no changes were made to my computer or OS) but 1 to 2 MD updates after I reported this problem it disappeared as mysteriously as it came. There must have been a hidden bug in the code somewhere but I can certify now that the problem was definitely *NOT* caused by my hardware but by the MD code as that was the only thing that changed after this problem resolved itself.
