I'm using 631  and just started a new account.......  (for test)

I manually entered the first check number (2301)  and when using the "next 
check #"  for the 2nd check, it came up with the right number  (2302)

I then closed MD and started it up again.   The next check was 2303.  Looks 
like it is working just fine.

I suspect you aren't getting your file saved for some reason.
