Al,

I've just taken a closer look at my setup (I'm using debian testing)
but I've discovered that I have a symlink in my md folder to 
 /usr/java/j2re1.4.2/

Maybe downgrading java is the way to go. I've got 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 all
installed on my system.
