Nasty problem here - lost all my data :-(

It would seem that the new MD is keeping some sort of backup, even
though I have backups turned off. I have several md files and my
security method is to tar them up and run them through pgp thus:

tar -cf - *.md|pgp  -cf >data.pgp

Now given an arbitrary md file daves.md this new process generates a
-daves.md file as soon as MD opens the file - and leaves it there when
it closes. So tar barfs:

tar: Unknown option d.  Use 'tar --help' for a complete list of
options. So nothing gets passed to pgp. The script then deletes the md
files :-(

OK I have backup and the quick fix is to add -- before the *.md to tar
but it might confuse some others so I thought I would post.
