I'm one who hasn't done the reconciliation process for a long time.
What I *do* is download all transactions from the sources and verify
that the balance is (eg. looks) correct. I get between a half to two
dozen transactions at a time. I scan those for outliers. If my main
bank kept transactions for longer than a few days after close I'd
probably do this only once a month with them. As it is I have to do it
at least twice (just before cycling and about a week later to pick up
the late-month bills being paid so I can plan the next month). I'm paid
bi-weekly so I *never* have a standard amount from which to draw on
specific dates. Previous job did allow me to be more consistent but
that was then...
These downloaded transactions (in the 5xx versions of MD) are marked as
Cleared. IIRC the 6xx version do not do this with QIF import. For me
that's a problem.
I just hope Sean, et. al., are keeping in mind the users who
fundamentally rely on download for data input. The advantage over
manual entry for me is the transaction shows in the same way that it
would to the bank/organization. This includes payee identification and
phone numbers usually. Entering that is not quite so simple as the
above.
