[moneydance] Howto enter a dummy security

Using Moneydance version 587 under Kubuntu Linux 7.10 and
java-6-sun-1.6.0.03.

In my Investment account, securities are created when I record a Buy
transaction and appear in a drop-down list in several fields.

How can I create a dummy security to give me some flexibility when none
of the items on the drop down list apply?

For example, I like to create a text entry as an Xfr at the end of each
month that will not change if I make a mistake and enter a figure in the
months I'm working on. If the number in the text field differs from the
balance as stated by Moneydance, then a mistake has been made that has
to be tracked down.

The only problem with this is MD likes to have security information in
some of the fields. Sometimes it uses a security from an entirely
different account (Investment or Bank) and sometimes it won't change.

Any ideas on handling this?

Larry
