[moneydance] Moneydance doesn't run on Kubuntu

Initially, it was a fresh installtion of Kubuntu with no Java
installed. I installed the Moneydance/Java. It would not run. Tried
installing Kubuntu's Java. Still same problem. Downloaded the Java
from Sun, edited the .bashrc to point to the Sun directory's JRE.
Still would not run.
Watching the execution from the command line, The Moneydance shell
looks at its Java load twice, doesn't like what it sees and turns to
the system for a Java source. This seems to be a Debian related issue
for Moneydance.
I just installed Mandriva 2008.1 Spring edition. Installed Moneydance
and it works fine. With the exception of an old Fedora install, I
have not had problems with Moneydance and *.rpm based distro's (Suse,
Redhat 8.0, Mandrake/Mandriva and PCLinuxOS).
I am puzzled as to why, with a barebones Kubuntu install (no Java
installed), Moneydance would not find its own Java to be acceptable?
