It's not a matter of the print quality, it's a matter of the check
readers at the bank.  Many banks these days have optical readers, so
printing your own micr with any old printer will work.  But many also
still only have magnetic readers, in which case printing your own micr
won't work -- the bank will have to enter your checks manually in that
case.  Some will do it, some will raise a fuss.
