I considered what you offer here, but then I realized that, behind the
Yes/No dialog box, I could see my account register. The only way for that
to be so would be for me to have entered my password, which I had not done
recently, so MD must have still been running from my earlier session.

I'm not sure I would describe adding a "Cancel" button to the dialog box in
question as making this more complex. I know that, in the past, choosing
what seemed to me like the logical option led to a loss of the work I had
just done. I *probably* chose "Yes," to use the autosaved file because it
seems to me that I would have wanted the newest file, but having trouble
reproducing the error, I can't give you a 100% confirmation of that.

To me, the problem stems from having to select between two files whose
contents I cannot be entirely sure of. Even Alt+Tabbing away and looking
at the files in question and seeing their last time/date of modification
does not necessarily tell me what's *in* them. Maybe I'm being overly
sensitive to infer from your post that it's unreasonable to have an option
to say "never mind, my mistake." I don't think it is.

It's already at 5 minutes.

It isn't.

I guess it could be, and might recover, all the while that Moneydance
continues to run. As I said, I pretty well established that Moneydance was
running when I mistakenly started it again. (And yes, this is information
I didn't provide until now.)

No luck. An amazing lack of errors of any sort on the date in question.

Thanks for all your thought, Dave. I guess that when push comes to shove,
I really mostly wanted to b**ch about not having a "Cancel" option on that
dialog box. :-)
