[moneydance] Envelope Budgeting/Category Balances...

You are correct. The drawback for me by using sub-accounts, is that I am not able to do online banking with my checking account. I can still do it with my credit cards, but not with my checking account that I have my envelopes in.
When you reconcile, it gives you the ability to choose sub-accounts, which is the only thing that even makes using envelope budgeting possible for me. It would be nice if you could choose "include sub-accounts" when doing online banking, and then be able to choose the account and category. Then I think I would be able to use online banking again.
I don't think you would have this problem with the envelope method on the wiki that uses categories. If you went that route, you would probably still be able to use online banking.

If I have need some more gas money, I'll just not go to the movies by going into Checking->Misc->Entertainment and paying $44.00 to Checking->Automobile->Fuel)

This envelope budgeting thing looks interesting. However being a big
online bank fan (where I download all my transactions instead of doing
it manually), how does that play into envelope budgeting?

Usually I go to my checking account, download my transactions and
place them in the appropriate categories. Is that still possible
here? The sub-accounts seemed to have me a little confused.

Thanks,
Don
