In each case where I found this to be a problem, I had just entered a big
stack of receipts, and I don't remember the exact circumstances, but what
ended up happening was that all the work I had just done was gone. IIRC,
the "newer file" didn't have any of the work I had just done.
I specifically remember one time where I had just reconciled eight or ten
accounts and entered probably 30 or 40 receipts, and had to do it all over
again. I wasn't amused.
That's when I started my trick of toggling out of it, copying every MD data
file I could find to a safe place, then going back an making my selection.
One of the files I had copied was the one that had all the work I had just
done, but simply having the option to say "NEVER MIND!!" would have been
really handy, instead of trying to choose whether I wanted the newer file
or the older file, without any way of knowing what was actually in either
file.
But, as I say, I haven't seen this happen in a long time, so it's probably
been fixed.
