[moneydance] Does anyone else have a problem with this user interface behavior?

This sounds like a bug and should be filed in Trac.

Normally launching an application that is already running (if it is a 
single instance application) should just cause the existing instance to 
get focus. There should be no file I/O.

At minimum MD should show a warning dialog that you are attempting to 
open a new file before saving the existing one.
