[moneydance] multi-currency transactions with Hyperwallet

I'm using Moneydance 2008 (build 603) and am trying to record
multi-currency transactions for a Hyperwallet account (it's sort of a
Canadian version of PayPal). The problem is that the funds in the
Hyperwallet account are generally Canadian, but if you are seeking to
transfer the funds to a US account, it creates these transactions:

1. the specified amount is converted to USD
2. a transfer fee in USD is deducted from the converted money
3. the result of #1 - #2 is then transferred to the US account

I couldn't think of a good way to record the purchase of USD and fix the
exchange rate, then deduct the transfer fee in USD all using one
bank-type account. So I ended up splitting the account into two, one for
CAD and one for USD. Then the USD purchase is recorded as a transfer
from the CAD to the USD account, and the transfer fee is then a trivial
expense entry in the USD account.

Is there a simpler way to pull this off?
