Strange, I'm seeing exactly the opposite. I just installed 2008 for the 
first time (using 606), and the very first difference I noticed is that 
while I'm entering a transaction, everything else is such a light gray that 
I have trouble reading it.

I understand the need to highlight the transaction being entered, but 
sometimes I need to refer to other transactions during entry! The type of 
the others is lightened so much that I have to squint to read it.

Of course, the type in the MD forums is just as bad, but at least I was 
able to fix that with a user style sheet:

* {color:black ! important}

Can't do that in the application.
