As a long-time Palm user, and an erstwhile Quicken user, I feel that I
can say someone once did get this right.

The products were Quicken, and PocketQuicken, and the synchronization
between them was beautiful.

The same ledgers you could see on your PC could be seen in miniature
form on the Palm. Not all of your transactions would be there, but the
last month or so, so that you could easily pull out your PDA and recall
what activity had been going on with your accounts. (PDA's are for
people who forget things, you see.)

Likewise, if you just got a receipt from a store, you didn't have to
stash it in your pocket until you could get to your PC and enter the
data. You could enter it right on your Palm. And since memorized
transactions were kept there, all it generally took was to enter a few
characters, and the payee would be recognized, along with the category,
just as you enjoy on the PC with the full-blown program. And, all that
data would end up copied to your PC the next time you synchronize your
PDA (every day, if you're used to doing that).

Unfortunately Quicken kept changing things and breaking the usefulness
of PocketQuicken, and by that time I had gotten fed up and started using
Moneydance, but I never forgot how enjoyable it was to have full sync
between my Big Computer and my Little Computer.
