You can't change the reconciliation initial balance because it is strictly
the sum of the account initial balance and all reconciled transactions.

If the account in Quicken had an initial balance (from when you first set
up the account), then MD does not import this correctly (at least not
always), partly due to limitations of the QIF format. Instead it tends to
set up an account with a similar name but X added. If this has happened to
you, then edit the account to set the initial balance the same as the old
account, and then delete the X account.

Even if you cannot identify the initial amount as the problem, one solution
is to simply adjust the initial balance to make the first reconciliation
work. Or you can set up an expense category of "balance adjustments" and
use it to transfer the discrepancy to or from the account. Of course you
probably only want to do this for small discrepancies; for large
discrepancies you probably want to figure out the reason.
