Hi,
I am trying to get an overview about the profitability of my
investments. I understood that MD is not perfect at all in terms of
reporting and that it is lacking some reporting features. However, my
intention was to use the "cost basis" report for an investment
account and to export it to XLS in order to do some further analyses.
Problem with the cost basis report is that buy transactions are
recorded fine while the sell transactions are always using the buy
price.
Example:
Stock A
buy 50 stocks -> total incl. transaction fees = 3149,30 Euro
sell 50 stocks -> total incl. transaction fees = 3557,24 Euro
but
MD reports
sell 50 stocks -> total incl. transaction fees = 3149,30 Euro
Why?
Do I miss anything fundamental or did I misunderstood the purpose of
the report at all?
What is the cost basis report good for? The Help file says the
following:
"Cost Basis Displays the amount of money used to purchase securities
that you currently own. This can be compared to the current value of
those securities to determine the success of those investments.
Settings include the option to display the cost basis for all
securities, for securities under a certain account, or for a specific
individual security."
How can I determine the success of an investment if I can't see the
profit/loss when I sell it?
Is there a better way to achieve the result I am looking for?
Thanks in advance for your kind feedback/help or guidance in the
right direction.
Vitor
