It may be too late, since I haven't read the list in a couple of weeks, but ...
Do you mean you spent 12+ hours cleaning up the import? If so, then you
might be better off starting over anyway. I imported about 14 years of
personal finance data from Quicken/Mac, and I think it took me four or five
hours of cleanup after the import. I had only a couple of accounts needing
anything other than minor corrections and changing the X account to an
initial balance.
Since you've had a problem, set your backup options to backup on every save.
Look to see if MD saved a .xml file.
Write directly to support if you still cannot open the file.
I once apparently had MD crash while writing the DB, which was then totally
corrupt. However, all I had to do was go back to the last previous backup.
MD definitely has a lot of rough edges. Most users value it not for polish
but for the fact that you can actually get help and support. Most of us
came from Quicken and liked a lot about it, but not the planned
obsolescence and especially not the incompetent support. Or to put it
another way, we liked Quicken but not Intuit. But most of us find MD to be
quite stable despite those rough edges. You seem to have hit a soft spot
somehow, but the soft spots are not the common experience.
