In the account creation process, there's a pop-up to indicate the parent
account. The default is the root account, so you never notice it when all
accounts are directly under the root.

It's not clear to me what you are objecting to, unless as someone else
suggested you have transactions directly within the parent accounts. Don't
do that. In general, when you use multi-level accounts, the parent accounts
should not contain any transactions, just other accounts. (In fact, I wish
I could tell MD to prevent me from creating transactions in these "folder"
accounts, because I never intend to do that and tend to lose the
transactions. Perhaps an account option ...)
