I'm not doing exactly that, but here are two ideas.
1) Put the MD files on a USB memory stick and carry it around. Others here
have reported doing this -- including updating the files using a Mac at
home and a Windows box at work.
2) Use something which provides an "online disk". I'm sure there are many;
I use Jungle Disk (http://www.jungledisk.com). JD uses Amazon S3 for
storage, and S3 only charges for actual usage, so storing one small file is
very cheap. JD encrypts what it uploads, but keeps a copy in a local cache
during processing.
Both options require you to remember to close the MD file before going from
one location to the other, but this applies to your current email scheme also.
