[moneydance] Recording interest on cash in an investment portfolio

My investment portfolio accounts include cash that earns interest.
In the Action field of the register, there is no Int item to select. The
closest thing is Div, but that requires an entry in the Security field (if I
try to leave the Security field blank, MD puts my first security in there).
I'd swear that I was able to use Div in the past with no entry in the
Security field. But I just looked back at previous interest transactions,
and they all now have some security named in the Security field.
By experimenting, I found that I can use Xfr in the Action field, which will
leave the Security field blank, and I can enter an Interest Income category
in the Transfer field. I was somewhat surprised that it allowed a category
in the Transfer field, since the description for Xfr in the Action field
popup explicitly says that Xfr is used to transfer funds to/from another
ACCOUNT.
Is this the recommended way to record interest on cash in an investment
portfolio?
Thanks for any suggestions or comments.
