Can you get a .csv download?  If so, the 'text file importer' extension 
will allow some field manipulation.  It won't let you assign a category 
on the fly, but I guess you could write some sort of script to do that 
in the .csv file if you want.  I just import then assign the categories 
by editing each entry in MD it brings in.
