Half of the reason i love moneydance is because i can just untar it to wherever i want and run it from there. No crazy installers or files to hunt down and edit if i want to remove/change the install. The problem with adding icons and other "fanciness" to the linux install is that all the different window managers put stuff like that in different locations. So in the end you'd have to have separate installers for RedHat, Suse, Slack and so on.
As it is, it currently works very well on linux and IRIX, and every other UNIX out there as long as you have Java installed.
