and sure enough I installed Sun JDK and made sure it's the java that's being
used when typing "java -version" (in case you wonder - it's

What do you mean by "same 64 bit environment"? Intel Core 2 Duo implements
what's commonly referred to as "amd64" (aka "x86_64") so it's basically the
same environment as the one are going to have on your AMD chip.
