Interesting.. I was playing around with some code that did this as well 
-- also
in python -- but with aspirations of being converted to a "real" plugin 
written in
Java.. Unfortunately, I've had too many other distractions to get to it 
lately..
I will eventually if nobody beats me to the punch.. :-)
