The other possibility to explore would be to export both files to XML, use
a text editor the extract the parts relevant to the account needing to be
moved, insert that XML in the other file, and open it in MD.
In theory this should work without a hitch. The hard part will be figuring
out what pieces need to be moved -- it's almost certainly more than one
section. I've only looked very briefly at the MD XML files -- they look to
be pretty straightforward, but XML is wordy and it'll take some study to
find all the right parts.
The big problem with QIF, in general, is that transactions are one-sided.
However, MD is pretty good about making a two-sided transaction when it
can't find an "other side" transaction to match, as is the case where the
"other side" is a category. So in this simple case the results should be fine.
Neither XML nor QIF will be fun to edit, but AFAIK either method should work.
