Hi, All,
For general discussion, I just submitted item 837 to Trac dealing with
difficulties in reconciling Moneydance with my monthly bank statement.
The problem is (and has always been) that Moneydance will load all
transactions into the reconcile window regardless of when they cleared
the bank. For those of us that download our transactions on an ongoing
basis, this means that we have a choice of either:
1- doing a secondary balance on a separate sheet of paper so we can
exclude the items already marked as clear.
2- noting all of the already cleared items, unchecking everything,
reconciling everything, and then RE-checking all of the items that have
cleared the bank after the reconcile period on the statement.
3- Simply accepting an unbalanced statement and hoping that we and the
bank both have it right.
FWIW: I suggested that the Right Thing in this instance would be for
Moneydance to exclude any transaction from the reconcile window if
either the transaction date or the cleared date are after the "as of"
date given in the first reconcile dialog.
Obviously, Sean keeps track of some state dealing with downloaded
transactions as they are matched up with manually entered transactions.
I have no idea how hard it would be to add this, but it causes me to
say bad things to my computer every time I fail to reconcile my account
within 2 or 3 days of the statement closing date.
Thoughts?
