After reading the suggestions and input people kindly gave, I ended up
keeping just one moneydance file, with categories in oldcurrency (USD)
and newcurrency (GBP).  Since I had over the course of the year
entered many transactions into categories with the wrong currency, I
did a fair amount of work going over my accounts and converting them
as necessary, and learned to use the python extension in the process,
which was fun.
