Changing the base currency of you accounts is not a problem. in the 
"tools>currencies/exchange rates"  menu you can set the base currency to 
any currency you want. It will then do all reports in that currency.
To change the currency of specific expenditure and income accounts it is 
safer to make new accounts for each type to avoid apples and pears being 
added somewhere in the system.
