Nationwide (UK Bank)

Hi,

Nationwide bank in the UK supports Microsoft Money connection (and I have verified this) ... Is there anyway to get the information out of the connection packet stream to work out what URL I need to enter to access the information correctly using Moneydance?

  Thanks,

It depends exactly what type of connection they support.  There are web-based connections which is basically the same as logging into the bank's web site and downloading a file into Moneydance/Money/Quicken/etc, and then there are direct connections where the application can connect directly to the financial institution's OFX server.  If Nationwide supports the latter type of connection then it should be possible for Moneydance to do the same.  If not, then the best option is to use the bank's web site to download files that are then loaded into Moneydance.

I don't know if MS Money contains a log of the connections that it makes, but Quicken sometimes keeps this information in a file called OFXLOG.txt.  You can sometimes view this information in Quicken by selecting the Help->Customer Support menu and then clicking the "OFX log" link.

It does support from inside of Money the download without using the website.

I only see a Nationwide bank that is here in the US.  Most UK/European banks do not support DIRECT OFX connections.  Therefor most are downloading the info into a .qif file and then importing it into Moneydance.

I'm pretty definite they support OFX as Money apparently uses that with Nationwide [Building Society]. If anyone has Money and has been able to figure out how it connects to Nationwide, I'd appreciate the information.

I am a Mac user in the UK and want to use Moneydance for online banking. My bank in the UK is First Direct (part of the HSBC family). Would I be able to download my accounts into Moneydance from First Direct?

Most of the UK banks do not allow Direct Connections for downloads. They only support .qif downloads. If you call your bank most will not have clue on what you are talking about.

can you email that data to me in a plain text file that has been zipped up?

the forums (and mail) will sometimes mess with the data and render it unreadable for me.

Hello - did this go anywhere?

Nationwide BS, definitely supports direct connection for the downloading of statements in MS Money, I've been using it for years. It works very (almost surprisingly) well. I think they are still the only UK bank to do this.

Has anyone mapped the fields from the rtufty's post yet?

I'd love to dump Money 2002, for something Mac native!

I've been trying to get Nationwide to work with MD today. I found the above link on google groups to Microsoft Money's mmn file which contains the following info:

But when I try to enter this information as a new Manual Online Banking connection I get this error:

Is there a log for MD which will show the full response from the server? What might be causing this?

Hi

I just switched from HSBC to Nationwide and I'd love to get this going.

HSBC would let me download QIF files, but Nationwide looks like it's CSV all the way. I've had a quick play with the Text File Importer. I have a problem though, I think because Nationwide puts debits and credits in separate fields and doesn't mark debits with a minus. Basically all amounts get imported as a credit.

I guess I could write a a bit of perl to munge the CSV file before importing. It would be pretty trivial. Does anyone using Nationwide have a better way ?

BTW - is the source for the Text File Importer available ? I'm always happy to tinker improvements together.
