We are extremely pleased to announce that anyone with an Android device can now sync their accounts, transactions and budgets with Moneydance on their desktop.

Thanks to our long-time partner Mennē Software Solutions who has released HandyBank for Android

HandyBank is a perfect companion to the desktop version of Moneydance, and is meant to allow quick entry of transactions while keeping track of your budget while on the go. Accounts, categories, recent transactions, and budgets are synced to your Android device and transactions entered or modified on your mobile device are synced to your desktop. HandyBank can sync with Moneydance either via wifi, like the iOS app, or Dropbox which allows you to sync without needing to have Moneydance running on the same local network at the same time.

HandyBank uses industrial strength encryption to keep your data safe even beyond the protection offered by your wifi network or Dropbox.

Mennē Software Solutions has even promised to donate 20% of the proceeds from HandyBank sales to charity! Check out HandyBank on the Android Market!

As many of you know, we’ve been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the latest version of Moneydance, and we’re thrilled to announce that Moneydance 2011 is finally here! The new build has the same familiar checkbook-register interface and all of the features of our earlier versions, but we’ve made the software more intuitive, more customizable and, most importantly, added a whole host of new features that make the program even better!

Here’s a quick recap of some of the features that are new in Moneydance 2011:

  • Direct import of data from Quicken Essentials for Mac
  • Completely new interface for managing downloaded transactions, designed to minimize the effort required to keep your finances up to date
  • Additional Graphs and Reports, including a transfer report to help you analyze money flow between accounts
  • Multi-currency improvements making life easier when managing international accounts and investments
  • Instant access to bank websites from within the program
  • Enhanced report printing

So now that Moneydance 2011 is all ready to go, what’s the next step? Well, to try it, of course! If you’re a first-time Moneydance user, you can download our fully functional demo (allowing up to 100 manually entered transactions). Current Moneydance users can find out if they’re eligible for a free upgrade by entering their key here. Don’t forget to keep in touch, too! Moneydance loves social networking, and customers who “like” us on Facebook or tweet about @moneydance will get a 20% off discount code.

Stay tuned for blog updates as we celebrate this latest version of Moneydance and dive into some new features in our Moneydance in Action Series.

We’re so excited to be releasing Moneydance 2011, and are looking forward to sharing all the new (and old) ways Moneydance can help us track, manage and analyze our money. Thanks to the whole Moneydance community for helping to make this latest version what it is!

We at The Infinite Kind, LLC are pleased to announce the third significant update to Moneydance 2010. This release includes oodles of new features and bug fixes that are detailed after the break. If you already use Moneydance then you simply need to click the Check for new updates/extensions link on the home page and then follow the instructions to upgrade. If you are on a Mac we recommend downloading the whole app in order to benefit from improvements to the application wrapper/launcher.

We’re not resting on our laurels after this update, either. We’ve already begun working on more updates such as a significantly improved interface for categorizing/merging/confirming downloaded transactions, increasing the number of supported online banks and mind-blowing budgeting improvements.

I can’t tell you how happy I was to find the following words from Apple in my inbox today:

Your application has been approved for sale on the App Store. Pending any application availability issues, your app will be Ready for Sale and live on the App Store within 24 hours.

We at The Infinite Kind, LLC are pleased to announce that Moneydance for iPhone OS is now available for immediate download.

The Moneydance mobile app is a free companion to the desktop version of Moneydance, and is meant to allow entry and modification of transactions while on the go. Accounts, categories and recent transactions are synced to your iPhone or iPod Touch and transactions entered or modified on your mobile device are synced to your desktop once you’re back on the same wifi network as your desktop.

The device syncs via your local network and protects your information using industrial-strength encryption (192-bit DESede; one of the reasons it took so long to release).

Please check it out and send us feedback!

You cannot imagine how happy I am to announce the first public release of Moneydance 2010. We started the public beta testing a little more than a month and have been furiously adding last minute features and fixing bugs right up until this weekend. I would personally have preferred to continue coding until reaching a state of personal finance nirvana (if such a thing exists), however we now consider the beta stable and we can no longer justify holding back all of the new features from reaching the general public.

The first thing you’ll notice about the new software is the sidebar/source-list that can be used to navigate to any of your accounts, budgets, graphs and reports with a single click. The sidebar shows your account balances in addition to “unread” indicators which mean that marked accounts have pending downloaded transactions.

The unread indicators hint at another big new feature: automatic downloading of transactions in the background. If you set the preference to download transactions in the background Moneydance will, upon startup and every few hours, automatically download transactions from all of your online accounts and put them into your account registers to be accepted. The newly downloaded transactions will be marked as “unread” with a blue dot and can be left as they are, categorized individually (with helpful defaults provided based on previous transactions), or marked as “read” in one fell swoop. This new workflow lets you do as little or as much work as you like on your downloaded transaction information.

Other great features include the nifty new Budget Bars which give you a more detailed graphical view of your budget compliance, a few new reports and graphs as well as more flexible filtering of existing graphs and reports (including by tags).

Customers who purchased Moneydance 2008 will receive a completely free upgrade to MD 2010. If you purchased a license earlier than the Moneydance 2008 release date (March 28th 2008) then you are entitled to a half-price upgrade. Moneydance 2010 will retain the same low price of $39.99 USD. What a bargain!

To download the new version just head on over to our download page!

Yes, we do know that it is now 2009 and has been for nearly six full months. There were just a few minor updates to the 2008 line that we thought you might need to tide you over until MD2010 is released. It is embarrassing to admit, but what we were calling Moneydance 2009 will now be called Moneydance 2010, although it will still be released this year (planning for around October).

Another goodie that will be released (as a private beta) any day now is the Moneydance iPhone (and iPod Touch) application. This is an app that synchronizes with the desktop Moneydance and allows you to record transactions and check out your balances while you are out and about. When you get home it will seamlessly sync with your desktop over wi-fi. We’re very close to a beta release with only a few bugs to iron out. If you’d like to be a part of the private beta, post a message to this thread.

As for today’s update, here is the list of things that have changed since MD2008r3:

  • Workaround for Java 1.6 launcher incompatibility on Mac OS X
  • Fixed memorization of expenses graph
  • Fixed bug in ‘dashboard’ net worth graph to properly account for stock splits
  • Added most recent OFX CA certificate
  • Fixed bug in online banking when there are multiple accounts per bank
  • Fixed bug in online connection setup that caused the same account to be listed multiple times for some connections
  • Fixed duplicate transaction prevention that caused investment transactions (and some others) to reappear after having been accepted in a previous download
  • Fixed bug in which the APR field is not saved for CDs
  • Fixed bug that caused editing a tag to delete it
  • Added Verisign Class3 CA Certificate to enable ofx.americafirst.com to keep working
  • Made OFX downloads for BANK accounts with type CREDITLINE map to credit card accounts instead of bank accounts
  • Updated OFX account info selection and connection handling to better support account information retrieved from banks as well as connections in which the bill payment account information is different from the transaction download information
  • Removed Command-D/Ctrl-D shortcut for deleting instead of downloading(!) a transaction
  • No longer attempt to retrieve updates to already connected financial institutions from moneydance.com
  • Popup date picker now hides after a date is clicked.
  • Popup date picker no longer displays if there isn’t enough room in the window

You can get the update from the usual place.

It’s been a long time coming, but the first public update to Moneydance 2007 is now here. This update includes a bunch of new features and a lot of bug fixes or minor interface improvements. If you are already running Moneydance you can click on the “check for new updates/extensions” link on the main screen or the updater extension.

This update is free for everyone who has purchased a license on or after January 1, 2004. The upgrade is half price ($15) for all other customers and a paltry $29.99 for everyone else. Of course, we have a free download and a very liberal trial period to let you get a good feel for what Moneydance can do before committing.

Some of the highlights of the update:

  • Added print function in account and category list windows
  • Added Open Recent sub-menu with recently opened files
  • Added non-prorated budget interval option
  • Added batch change feature to quickly change certain fields for many transactions at once
  • Improved matching algorithm for downloaded transactions
  • Improved interface for editing split transactions
  • Many minor interface improvements and bug fixes

Please download a copy and tell your friends!

Here is the long awaited (well, 12 days) third beta for Moneydance 2007! This release includes a (further) improved budget system and fixes to a bunch of small bugs.

The budget graph now allows you to select the time period (this month, last month, this year, etc) for which your budget status should be graphed and does away with the pro-rated status indicators which seemed to confuse most reasonable people. The graph now remembers the selected budget and time period. The budget report has been given the ability to display budget performance for any given time period and also allows you to break down a budget report into monthly, weekly, quarterly, or yearly intervals and to see your budget status for those intervals side-by-side.

For those who are having printing problems on Linux, please try the installer that includes java below. This version includes Java 6 for Linux which should solve the CUPS printing problem that occurs when using Java 5 (aka Java 1.5)
