One Finger Discount

Thinking of buying Moneydance or know someone who is? If you buy on or before Friday November 13th you will get a 20% discount on Moneydance 2008 (which includes a free upgrade to MD 2010) by using the discount code “OneFingerDiscount” on our order form.

We are joining a host of other mac developers to offer this discount. The name “one finger discount” was chosen as 20% is one fifth of a “five finger discount” (aka free).

As an ex-quicken user, I’ve been using the demo version and counting my transactions with plans to buy as soon as I get close to 100. I can’t believe I missed this discount and will be hoping for another!

While I spending 1 1/2 hrs on Live Chat from Quicken with the nice enough tech that had no clue what I was talking about, I searched for another program. I think I found it. Only problem, missed this offer by 4 days. Any chance you might want to woo this unhappy Quicken user since 2000 with this sweet offer?

Hello….I’m just waiting the possibility to synchronize PC with W7 with the iphone3GS application to buy both applications (windows seven and iphone)
Any idea when it will be possible???

I would be looking to get in on the missed 20% discount as well. I am also a MS Money user who is looking to switch to another application. I am currently looking at Moneydance as a replacement and just today read the blog entry mentioning the discount last week. I would of definitely purchased Moneydance if I could of gotten the 20% discount.

Looks like this sale was from the Nov. 6-13 and you didn’t tell us about it until the 11th? Only 2 days notice – would be nice if you gave us a bigger window to act…

In defense of the developers… the OneFingerDiscount sale had a small number of developers at the start, and other developers joined in later. In this case, Moneydance didn’t join in until the 11th … I looked at the site around the 6th, and there was only about 20-30 developers.. Moneydance is listed as number 97.

Hopefully they will run another sale soon.

Where do you see that on the OneFingerDiscount site?! I looked at that site each day to see what new apps showed up, and even today (22Nov2009), I only see actual entries up through #75 – Code Chemistry. They have blank entries that go up to #117, but not a thing in any of them. Today was the first I found out about Moneydance being part of this promo. Had I seen it at the time, and I WAS checking out the OneFingerDiscount site daily, I would’ve jumped at it.

…Oh, son of a b*tch. I just found out why. I’m using Mozilla Firefox 3.5.5 for Mac. I’ve reloaded the page several times, but to no avail. But if I load the same site in Safari, NOW I see more entries.

Great. So basically due to either a bug in Firefox or poor website design by the OneFingerDiscount folks, I suspect many people missed out on some decent opportunities (and the devs missed out on potential new customers). Damn it. I see now there are some other apps I would’ve jumped on had I known they were offering a discount.

Maybe next time they’ll bother to test things out a bit to make sure it works with more than just one browser. *sigh*

Just to update: I looked at the HTML source of the OneFingerDiscount.com site, and sure enough, right after the entry for Code Chemistry, the website maintainers changed their style in the HTML, no longer putting information between the line item tags. Great move, folks. You screwed the devs who joined your promotion out of potential sales and customers out of potential deals. Do your homework next time please.

I saw that information when I first got an email about the OneFingerDiscount site from another company. I checked it out when it first launched, didn’t see anything interesting and pretty much forgot about it until I saw Moneydance offer the discount and jumped on it.

Frank, sounds like you disabled javascript. It’s true that the website stopped filling in the info in HTML after #75, but if you have javascript enabled, it all shows up :) Plus, there appears there was an RSS feed (dated “Tue, 10 Nov 2009 15:10:28 -0500″) that also shows moneydance listed. Oh, and this definitely isn’t the place to complain about a website not controlled by the author of moneydance! Thanks!

Semms funny so many people are stressing over $8. Full price is still a good deal and includes the update to MD2010. By far, this is one of the better Mac finance programs available.
