Moneydance 2008r4 and Development Update
Posted by sreilly under Moneydance , Releases[24] Comments
Yes, we do know that it is now 2009 and has been for nearly six full months. There were just a few minor updates to the 2008 line that we thought you might need to tide you over until MD2010 is released. It is embarrassing to admit, but what we were calling Moneydance 2009 will now be called Moneydance 2010, although it will still be released this year (planning for around October).
Another goodie that will be released (as a private beta) any day now is the Moneydance iPhone (and iPod Touch) application. This is an app that synchronizes with the desktop Moneydance and allows you to record transactions and check out your balances while you are out and about. When you get home it will seamlessly sync with your desktop over wi-fi. We’re very close to a beta release with only a few bugs to iron out. If you’d like to be a part of the private beta, post a message to this thread.
As for today’s update, here is the list of things that have changed since MD2008r3:
- Workaround for Java 1.6 launcher incompatibility on Mac OS X
- Fixed memorization of expenses graph
- Fixed bug in ‘dashboard’ net worth graph to properly account for stock splits
- Added most recent OFX CA certificate
- Fixed bug in online banking when there are multiple accounts per bank
- Fixed bug in online connection setup that caused the same account to be listed multiple times for some connections
- Fixed duplicate transaction prevention that caused investment transactions (and some others) to reappear after having been accepted in a previous download
- Fixed bug in which the APR field is not saved for CDs
- Fixed bug that caused editing a tag to delete it
- Added Verisign Class3 CA Certificate to enable ofx.americafirst.com to keep working
- Made OFX downloads for BANK accounts with type CREDITLINE map to credit card accounts instead of bank accounts
- Updated OFX account info selection and connection handling to better support account information retrieved from banks as well as connections in which the bill payment account information is different from the transaction download information
- Removed Command-D/Ctrl-D shortcut for deleting instead of downloading(!) a transaction
- No longer attempt to retrieve updates to already connected financial institutions from moneydance.com
- Popup date picker now hides after a date is clicked.
- Popup date picker no longer displays if there isn’t enough room in the window
You can get the update from the usual place.

Since you have now update OFX imports so that CREDITLINE will maps accounts to credit card instead of bank accounts, what is the easiest way to move an account from bank to credit card?

Nice job!!! Looking forward to the new version. Love the idea for the iTouch and iPhone….Will come in handy whenever I upgrade to these platforms.
Keep up the great work! :-)

Thanks for all your work. Moneydance keeps getting better!

Any possibilities for a Blackberry App?
Most importantly, what about an improved MS Money converted now that they are finished? MS seems to be working with Quicken on a better converter, I assume something that will convert the entire MS Money file in one shot.

Hi,
Quick question. If I purchase MD 2008, will a get a free upgrade to MD 2010 when it comes out in October? I’m really interested in the product, but I think that I will wait if I would need to pay more in October for the new version. I’m going to download the trial and play with it.

J, unfortunately we don’t have plans for a BlackBerry app, but we would be willing to work with other developers to let them use our syncing protocol.
Andy, we haven’t completely settled on the free upgrade policy, but I can guarantee that if you bought Moneydance in 2009 you will definitely get a free upgrade to 2010.

Hi Sean,
Any update on the iPhone app ?
Its close to 2 weeks without any update and I am very anxious.

It would be nice to see a list of bugs, by bug number, that have been or will be corrected for the new release. I know that Bill Gates famously and to a large extent correctly said that ‘people don’t want bug fixes – they want new features’, but some of them would be easy to fix and would make a big difference to usability of the product and overall image of the company.
Thanks,

Hi Mickey, it sounds like you’ve already found our Trac system where we keep track of bugs, but we don’t currently have a public list of bugs that will definitely be fixed for MD2010. We are working on fixing bugs as well as new features. There are also quite a few bugs that will become moot due to UI changes in the new version.
Thanks,
Sean

I would like to be able to add my own (Canadian, province of Québec)
bank to my automatic download. But it does not seem to be possible
with MoneyDance for the MAC.
iBank allows that, but it’s interface is way too overcrowded.
MoneyDance is much simpler. More like MsMoney – which I currently
use in Vista, and which allows me to easily add my bank’s settings.
So that is my wishlist for the timebeing.
Thanks.

I purchased this back in 2005, when I “know” the money was needed and appreciated. As a CPA, I like Moneydance, and encourage others to try it. I hope when you come up with your pricing policy for 2010r you won’t forget us early supporters ;-)

I, too, have had Moneydance for a few years.
For me, aside from finding the program essential to my yearly financial planning, I most value it for not going the big-company way of sunsetting, ridiculous activation which essentially makes the program randomly defunct and the minimising of changes, so far, which would make previous versions incompatible with the latest. Go Moneydance. A reduction in price for long-term owners would be nice but not in any way essential. Should Moneydance ever join the big boys in dodgy practices, I will be using the last best version. Yours, Greg

A bit late for the October release (MD2010)I know but I would really like a search facility that will look for matching entries in all accounts under a root account. Quicken had this and I found it really useful. This would be especially useful when I’ve put a transaction in the wrong account and need to find it so that I can move it!
Meanwhile keep up the good work. I’m looking forward to the October upgrade.
Regards,
Martin.

Martin: that is actually something that will be in MD2010, so it’s not too late at all :)

Sean,
I’m going to put in one more request for a standalone calculator like your standard calculator in Moneydance. I love it and have moneydance installed on the downstairs computer only in order to use the calculator. It’s especially useful when I’m doing online banking and want to transfer certain amounts. You couldn’t make it sit in the background in the foreground, as you do in moneydance, could you? (Using it in linux at the mo. Thanks, Greg

So is MD 2010 still on track for an Oct release?
October 6th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Collin: yes, at least a beta will be available in October.

Hi, I’m looking to switch over to Moneydance from Ibank when you release the 2010 version. I think the real determining factor for me will be the interface. I tried using Moneydance before but just couldn’t get beyond the dated interface, no matter how well the program worked in other areas.
Will Moneydance 2010 have a face-lift to make it more visually appealing?
Thanks,
Shawn

I love using Moneydance. It suits me very well.
But, please please for the new version, I hope there will be the option to disregard certain Bank Accounts from the Net Worth calculation.
I have set up a series of Virtual accounts to manage my savings (kind of like an Budget/Envelope system) and I do not wish these accounts to be included in the Networth.
I also have a virtual account (Expenditure Bin) that I’ve created to make this Envelope system work and whose Balance has no meaning whatsoever. (But I use it to balance all my other accounts). I would like to have the option of hiding this account from the Home Page (even though the value of the account is not zero), as well as disregarding it from the Current Balance.
Thank you. Can’t wait for a new version.

As Monique says, I’ve done this a little as well and I’d like that too, sometime in the future. Maybe some kind of special report could do this, instead? Greg

Well the months pass by and no new version of Monry Dance is available. It would be nice if you post an update as to the status of Money Dance 2010 as well as the (I Pod Touch App)I know windows 7 came out and I hope this does not delay the release of MD 2010 and that you will still support Windows XP atleast until Microsoft stops supporting XP.

I am thinking leaving Microsoft and enter the MacWorld…the problem is i need Microsoft Money all day. Is possible, simple and easy to import a QIF file to the new MoneyDance 2010? Works?
when can i buy MoneyDance 2010?

I will have to agree with Robert. It has been a long time since you updated your software and you stated that Oct was the release date. It is now November and you have no update and no new version. So what is the deal, I am wondering if a new version will ever come.

Tony,
Go to http://www.moneydance.com/preview and it will take you to the new beta which has been out for a few days now.
